treasure maps

The bonus of living in an old apartment building is that it's inhabitants often have little treasures hidden away, that eventually they decide they no longer want.  The counter in the communal laundry room is a market for these items, most of which are taken within 5 minutes of being left behind.  And what has been my most recent acquisition?  About 40 old National Geographic maps and travel guides printed between 1960 and 1980.  These maps are beautifully illustrated and full of interesting facts and figures.  They feature a travel guide and history on one side and a cartographic map on the other.  I'm thinking of framing a collection of these oversized maps in large sleek frames and creating another gallery up my entrance hall.  Stay tuned.

  1. There is so much potential in maps and what they represent. I find myself hanging them up again and again, switching them every so often. Globes are super gorgeous as well.

  2. what a score! We were just considering wallpapering my nephew's nursery in old maps, but found that sourcing the amount we would need was going to be quite a project. We painted the continents in the end, but I'm eager to see what you do with this treasure trove!
