10 ?s | misha, architectmade

Meet Misha. Misha is the Creative Manager over at ARCHITECTMADE - a Danish company that manufacturers and distributes some of Denmark's most iconic design objects designed by it's most iconic architects. They manufacturer two of my favourite items of all time - Hans Bolling's Duck and Duckling and Kristian Vedel's Birds [both mentioned here]. Misha contacted me a few weeks ago and I wrestled her into participating in 10 ?s, what a good sport. And in return I was more than happy to tell you a bit more about ARCHITECTMADE. I'll share with you a snip-it from their press release about WHY ARCHITECTS?

"Architects have extraordinary interdisciplinary knowledge about materials and their properties and also a strong connection to the craftsmanship tradition. They focus on the multifunctionality of their products, while incorporating their signatures into them, such as the perfectly fitting edges of the Turning Tray. Similarly, architects build houses with the pretext of having them stand for years on end, which is a quality that they also incorporate into designing smaller products. Their appeal is therefore maximised and can be called timeless.  Architects also design smaller products not out of necessity like product designers, but out of love and passion for the sake of design itself. Kristian Vedel couldn’t have expressed it better when he answered a question about why he made the BIRDs: “I simply couldn’t help myself!”"

Being in the field of architecture myself, you know I full-heartedly agree with the intent and focus of the company. Continuing the legacy of these pure, simple and stylish designs, ARCHITECTMADE's products are made following the highest possible standards and are sold exclusively in the leading design retailers all over the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Skandium in London and Guggenheim in Berlin as well as online at panik-design.com.  You can find out more at architectmade.com or on Twitter @ ARCHITECTMADE. Here's 10 ?s with the lovely Misha.

1. What is the most rewarding aspect of what you do or what has been the most rewarding experience you've had in your career?

I’d probably have to go with seeing my texts and ideas about the products being displayed in stores all around the globe and on the internet. It is just amazing to think that my instore display is in the same house as the greatest works of art in MoMa!

2. Favourite time of day?

I am definitely a night owl, that is when the best ideas surface.

3. Star Wars or Star Trek?

Star Trek

4. What is one thing you would change about your industry or what you do?

Less pretense would be good in the design industry.

5. What is your daily routine? If you don't have one, what is one thing you do everyday?

The one thing I do every day is to take time for myself in the morning before going anywhere, usually this involves putting on make up and taking a deep breath. Everything else is sporadic and spontaneous.

6. If you weren't doing what you do, what else would you do?

I would probably be a stuffy academic with patches on their sweaters, most likely somewhere in the attics of an Ivy league university or Oxbridge.

7. Favourite Colour?

Black, definitely.

8. Favourite board game?

Does pictionary count?

9. Where do you see your industry or yourself in 10 years?

I see my industry being even more green and sustainable than it is nowadays.

10. What do you feel is "trendy" right now and what do you feel will stand the test of time?

'Trendy' is superficial, fleeting and can be meaningless. We at Architectmade to rise above that notion, although I think that the two concepts do not necessarily have to be at different ends. I think our BIRDs are a bit like Chanel suits - timeless, classy and will remain relevant for decades to come.
